COLORADO SPRINGS, CO SEPTEMBER 25, 2012 – JT Taylor finished the Ultra4 Rock Sports Challenge at Miller Motorsports park in 9th with grace and poise. The oldest car on the track with glowing Torchmate CNC graphics and strong Goodyear Tires had the 4th fastest qualifying time, finished 4th in his heat and after getting passed in a bottle neck in the rocks, finished 9th in the main event. “Short course is always so fun! My favorite part is the wheel to wheel action,” said JT Taylor. “I had some great battles out there, one with Wayland Campbell in the heat race and in the Main race I battled with Brian Shirley.”
JT Taylor ran without a co-driver, instead opted to have Ben Napier in the stands on the radio spotting for him. “Ben did an awesome job spotting for me and I didn’t even need a translator,” laughed JT. “We ran a fast qualifying lap, in the heat we finished 4th and then in the main everything was going great and we were in the top 5 until the second to last lap I got caught in a ‘car jam’ in the rock section. That opened the door allowing some cars to pass leaving me in 9th at the finish.”
The car worked perfectly with no issues, but when inspecting it on Sunday morning, the front lower link was hanging on by only a half tab. “That could have been really, really bad,” said JT Taylor. “Profit Cruisers there at Miller Motorsports let me use their welders and Torchmate Table to get it ready for this weekend.”
This weekend JT Taylor will be competing in the TORC Huseman Memorial Race in Antelope Valley Fairgrounds in Lancaster, CA September 29th and 30th with the Torchmate CNC Ultra4 car. “I am grateful to be able to race in the honor of the Huseman brothers,” said JT Taylor. “It is really cool to be able to be back out on a TORC track, especially after my podium experience at Crandon. Not sure what can top that!”
The Ultra4 cars will race on the same track as the Championship rounds 13 and 14 of the TRAXXAS TORC Series on Saturday the 29th then on Sunday the two largest CUP races of the season are on tap. The TRAXXAS Pro Light Cup, in memory of Jeff Huseman, will pay $15,000 to the winner. The Rick Huseman Cup, for PRO 2 and PRO 4 racers, will have a purse of nearly $65,000, paying $36,000 to the winner, with no entry fees!
